The XML Sitemap file is nothing but a directory of all web pages that exist on your blog. Search engines [like Google, Bing, Yahoo] can use these sitemap files to discover pages on your site that the search bots may have otherwise missed during regular crawling.
You want your pages/posts to appear in search results, right? But how will a particular page appear if the search engine doesn't even know that that page exists!?
"Creating a sitemap helps search engines better crawl and categorize your site." - Google Developers
Long story short - If you want search engines to index all the posts/pages that exists on your blog, implement this tutorial!
Now, there are way too many tutorials on the web about how to submit your sitemap. But most of 'em are either out-dated or not straight to the point! I've done my part of research and I can assure you that implementing the following two steps will get your work done for sure! Let's dive in...
Generate your Blogger blog's sitemap
We will use a simple yet effective tool created by Amit Agarwal to generate our blog's sitemap. This step is valid for both regular Blogger blogs (like techsperia.blogspot.com) and also blogs that use a custom domain (like techsperia.com).
1. Go to ctrlq.org/blogger
2. Paste your blog's full URL (including http://) in the provided space and hit Generate Sitemap
3. Copy the entire thing that appears.
Submit the sitemap via robots.txt
1. Go to your Blogger dashboard --> Settings --> Search preferences --> Enable theCustom robots.txt option (available under the Crawling and Indexing section).
2. Simply paste the entire code that you just copied.
3. Hit Save changes.
That's pretty much it. Now, search engines will automatically discover your blog's XML sitemap via the robots.txt file.
Though it won't be necessary, you can also submit your sitemap to Google Webmasters and Bing Webmasters manually. I'll write tutorials on each of them soon!
