Blogger's Default Feature: Display Author Information Below Every Post!

Previously, Wordpress used to have this beautiful feature where it used to display the author's image and a short bio below every post! The magical thing about it was that Wordpress generated this automatically from the author's Wordpress profile!

This feature was especially very useful for blogs with multiple authors because it identifies which author has written the post and displays his information below his postonly!

Well, Wordpress still has this feature but the good news is Blogger has this feature too! It's been quite a few months now since Blogger announced this feature but strangely very few bloggers know about it! Hence, here I am to tell you guys about it!

See an example

Let me give you Techsperia's example. This post is written by me [Raj], right? So scroll down and have a look at the end of this post. You'll see a beautiful box that has my picture in it [ain't I handsome?] and a little bio about myself.

Now, go ahead and have a look at this post:

That post is written by my friend, Suryakant! So if you scroll down to the bottom of thatpost, you'll see his information there!

All this is done automatically! But there's just one problem, Blogger's default author box is pretty lame. Like, it literally sucks! So what I did was made the box beautiful with the help of CSS! ;) I'll teach you how to do it in the next tutorial. Here have a look at the default box:

Steps to implement:

This is very easy!

1. Go to your Blogger's dashboard --> Layout

2. You will see a section called "Blog Posts". It'll be the one taking maximum space! Click on Edit

Blogger Blog Posts

3. Scroll down a little bit and tick the option that says Show Author Profile Below Post

Blogger Show Author Profile Below Post

You're done!

From where does Blogger gets the info from?

If you're one of the very few people who likes to use their brain, you must be wondering by now that if Blogger is doing all this automatically, from where does it get the author's information from!?

The answer is Google+!

Blogger uses your Google+ profile picture and introduction to display your information.

So if you want to change the picture that is displayed below posts, change your Google+profile pic! And if you wanna change the bio that is displayed, change your introduction!

To change, you can go to plus.google.com --> Hover on "Home" on the top-left and select "Profile" --> Click on "About" and scroll down a little bit. You will see something like this:

Google+ Stroy Introduction

How the hell does Blogger know who wrote the post?

I told you before that Blogger will automatically detect who the post's author is and display only his information! So how does Blogger know that? You can go to your dashboard and click on "Posts". You'll see that Blogger displays the author's name exactly besides the post title!

This proves that Blogger really does know who the author is! Let me tell you how it is decided and this is something no other blogger out there has explained specifically!

First of all, you need to be signed in with your account (duh!) You are the post's author if you have started writing it! Yeah, if you are the one to hit the New Post button, then you are the author! It doesn't matter who is writing the post later, who edited it or who hits the Publish button. You are the author only if you started writing it!

Final Thoughts

You know what I think? I think that even if your blog doesn't have multiple authors, still you should display your information below every post! Why you ask? Because your readers should know who the hell they are reading to!

Now this is a problem with most bloggers out there. You have thousands of pageviews but what's the meaning if people doesn't even know that the blog is written by you! Don't make them go to the about page to know who you are. Tell them who you are in every post!

See Techsperia for example. I know for a fact that 99% of people reading this post at this very moment knows that Techsperia is written by me, the one and only Raj Mehta! How cool is that!?

Oh and yeah, I know the default author box kinda sucks. But I bet you must be liking the way I display the author boxes here on Techsperia. I am going to share the styling code with you in the next tutorial!
