Update: Authorship 15% Reduction - Google is getting picky on who they show authorship rich snippets for. So don't be surprised if your profile picture doesn't appear even after following the tutorial, look for ways to make yourself more authoritative. Google will display your image only if it thinks that your blog is authoritative...
If you want your image to appear besides your website/blog's Google search results, you'll need a Google+ Profile with a good, recognizable headshot as your profile photo. Then, verify authorship of your website/blog by associating it with your profile using these 2 simple steps.
Tip:To know how I added a description below my blog's search result, see How To Add Meta Descriptions To Your Blogger Blog And Posts.
Link from your Blog to your Google+ profile:
1. Create a link to your Google+ profile from your website/blog, like this:
<a href="https://plus.google.com/profile_id?rel=author">Text to display</a>Replace the text highlighted in blue with the your Google+ profile ID, like this:
<a href="https://plus.google.com/107015367605965056336?rel=author">Raj Mehta</a>
- Replace Raj Mehta with your name or whatever text you want to display.
- Also, your link must contain the ?rel=author parameter. If it's missing, Google won't be able to associate your content with your Google+ profile.
- You can place the link anywhere in your blog, preferably in your about page or a social widget.
Don't know what your Google+ profile ID is?
Go to your Google+ profile and look at the URL. Everything between https://plus.google.com/ and /posts is your profile ID. Take a look at my profile's screenshot to understand properly (the part highlighted in blue is my profile ID):
Tip: If you're confused on where to display the link or wish not to display it, you can do this:
Copy the below code and paste it after the opening <head> tag
<a href="https://plus.google.com/profile_id?rel=author"/>
In this way, authorship for your blog will work and you don't have to bother about displaying the link. I've done the same on my blog as well. ;)
Link from your Google+ profile to your Blog:
- Edit the Contributor to section of your profile.
- In the dialog that appears, click on Add custom link under the Contributor to section
- Write your blog's name and URL, make sure it's Public and hit Save.
You're done! You can check whether the authorship for your blog is working or not by entering your website/blog's URL in Google Structured Data Testing Tool.
Here is a screenshot of what my blog's authorship looks like:
Once your authorship starts working, your image will appear besides your website/blog in Google search results. If you've just implemented the above 2 steps, wait for a few hours and then test your blog's authorship. If it still ain't working, comment your blog's URL below and I'll try my best to help you out. :)
