How To Embed A Twitter Timeline (Tweets) In Your Blog

Twitter Wallpaper

If you are an avid Techsperia reader, you must have noticed that I recently embedded my twitter timeline i.e. my tweets in one of my gadgets. A few people started asking me how I did it, so here I am, giving them an answer!

What are Embedded Twitter Timelines?

Embedded timeline widgets give you the ability to embed a collection of Tweets (known as a timeline) on your own website/blog.

Just like timelines on twitter.com, embeddable timelines are interactive and enable your visitors to reply, Retweet, and favorite Tweets directly from your blog. An integrated Tweet box encourages users to respond or start new conversations, and the option to auto-expand media brings photos front and center.

These new timeline tools are built specifically for the web, mobile web, and touch devices. They load fast, scale with your traffic, and update in real-time.

Steps to implement:

1. Make sure you are signed-in to your twitter account and visit twitter.com/widgets

2. Click on Create new on the right.

3. The rest is self-explanatory. You will see a form-like page where you can enter your requirements. On the right, you will also see a preview of how your embedded timeline will appear.

Some tips:

  • In username, you can write the username of ANY public twitter timeline.
  • I recommend ticking the option "Exclude replies". By this, the tweets that are actually "replies" will not appear in the embedded timeline.
  • If you want to embed favourites, lists or even particular search results, you can select 'em via the top menu bar.
  • For more advanced options on how to customize a widget on the client-side, seethis article by Twitter Developers.

4. After you've configured the widget as you want, click on Create widget >> A short piece of code will appear >> Copy that code.

5. Paste the code where you want the timeline to appear and you're done!

Tip: If you want the Twitter Timeline to appear in Blogger's gadget and don't know where to paste the code, click here.

Note: Don't ever delete that particular widget because if you do so, the code will stop working and the Twitter Timeline will no longer appear.

I especially recommend that you embed YOUR OWN twitter timeline in your blog. It will enable your visitors to interact with you on Twitter from your blog itself! Plus, they will be updated about the awesome stuff you share on Twitter via your tweets. ;)
